Thomas grew up in Athens, Greece. He read Physics as an undergraduate and graduate student at the University of Athens and later obtained his PhD from SISSA, Trieste in October 2007. He subsequently was a postdoc at the Center for Fundamental Physics, University of Maryland, College Park and a postdoc and later Marie Curie Fellow at DAMTP, University of Cambridge. From May 2011 to September 2013 he was Assistant Professor at SISSA. He is currently Associate Professor and Reader at the School of Mathematical Sciences and the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nottingham.
Lisa read physics at RWTH Aachen University. During a one year Erasmus exchange to London she got introduced to the idea that space-time might be discrete, which set her on her current path. After completing the MSc in Aachen she went on to do a PhD at the Niels Bohr Institute, working on Causal Dynamical Triangulations. Now she is in Nottingham where she will continue this line of research.

Helvi is an expert on exploring the dynamics of black holes in general relativity and extensions thereof numerically. She first got excited about simulating black holes during her master's research project in the Numerical Relativity group at the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena (Germany). Subsequently, Helvi took up her graduate studies in the GRIT (Gravitation in Tecnico) group at CENTRA/Instituto Superior Tecnico in Lisbon (Portugal). After finishing her PhD in 2012 she was a postdoctoral research associate at DAMTP/ University of Cambridge. Helvi joined our team in summer 2015.

Mattia was born in Trento, in the far north of Italy. He obtained his BSc in Physics from University of Trento in 2011 and his MSc in Theoretical Physics in September 2013 after following a joint program between University of Trento and SISSA in Trieste. He is currently in the third year of his PhD studies at the University of Nottingham. He is mainly interested in black holes and Lorentz violations. When not studying, Mattia loves music and fancies swimming.

Jishnu comes from Kolkata, a densely populated metropolis in eastern India. He completed his Bachelors in physics at the Presidency college, Kolkata, and his Masters at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. Subsequently he moved to the US, and started out as a graduate student at Brown University, Providence, but left soon after to continue his graduate studies at the University of New Hampshire, Durham. He got his Ph.D. in 2013, and joined the group at SISSA. He moved to the University of Nottingham in January 2014. When not goofing off or spending time with his family, Jishnu tries to understand the physics of black holes, especially its thermodynamic properties, and how that may help us uncover some facts about quantum gravity.
